Theme: Applied Forest Genetic Conservation
CONFORGEN is a Canadian program for CONservation of FORest GENetic resources that was initiated by CFS scientists following discussions with public and private forest sector stakeholders.
It is intended to satisfy the need for a coordinated approach to conservation of forest tree genetic resources across provincial and territorial boundaries. CONFORGEN was launched in Charlottetown, PEI, July 28-29, 2006.
The theme for this second conference is “Applied Forest Genetic Conservation”. This will be an opportunity to network with others working in this area and to hear from speakers making presentations on a variety of topics.
We aim to have an internationally renowned gene conservationist as the keynote speaker to share information about the practical side of forest gene conservation. As well, other speakers will be invited to address various topics such as: forest genetic resources GAP analysis, implication of climate change for in situ conservation, geographically specific examples of genetic conservation in Canada, CONFORGEN’s activities and plans.
The Conference will take place on Friday August 29* and will wrap up mid afternoon. Thomas Ledig (USA) will give the keynote address. Other confirmed speakers include: Brian Barber, Tannis Beardmore, Barb Boysen, Andreas Hamann, Ole Hendrickson, and Judy Loo.
