On Sunday, August 24, the day before the TSWG workshop, we offer a pre-conference field trip to the Tree Seed Center and nursery of Berthier, which will celebrate their 100th anniversary in 2008. The tour will focus on :
- Tree Seed Center facilities
- Indoor larch seed orchard for the operational production of hybrid larch seeds
- 2nd generation white spruce seed orchard (outdoor)
- Facilities for white spruce production from cuttings
This pre-conference field trip is included in the congress fees. Departure to Berthierville will be possible from Montréal and Québec on the morning of August 24. The departure point will be confirmed later. Please indicate your preference in the registration form. Following the visit, everyone will be transported to Québec City by bus for the 31st Workshop of the Tree Seed Working Group to be held on Monday, August 25, 2008.

Three field trips will be offered to participants of the IUFRO-CTIA 2008 joint meeting in the afternoon of Thursday, August 28.
- "Old-forest ecosystem field trip". With a focus on ecology, participants will enjoy touring an old-growth hemlock-white pine forest at the “Rivière du Moulin” ecological reserve, followed by a rare red oak forest ecosystem, located in the oldest “Seigneurie” of Nouvelle-France, the Domaine Joly-de Lotbinière on the St.Lawrence River south shore.
- "Tree improvement field trip". Participants on this trip will tour a hybrid larch clonal test from somatic embryogenesis, a white spruce clonal test from rooted cuttings, a Norway spruce full-sib family test and a white ash provenance-progeny test. The field trip will end at the Domaine Joly-de Lotbinière, the oldest “Seigneurie” of Nouvelle-France located on the St-Lawrence River south shore. An old black walnut population introduced in 1882 will be visited.
- "Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area". This field trip takes participants to the junction of the St. Lawrence Lowlands and the Canadian Shield. It holds countless natural attractions and splendours to captivate visitors and offers a magnificent view of the St.Lawrence. We will visit a white spruce breeding orchard and clonal bank, and hike along the coastal plain and toward the Cap Tourmente cliff reaching a scenic point offering a panoramic view of the Orleans Island and St.Lawrence River.
