Theme: Canadian conifer genomics

The workshop will be held on Monday, August 25.  It will focus on scientific advances and technology developments in the two coordinated large-scale Canadian forest genomics projects Arborea II (www.arborea.ca) and Treenomix Conifer Forest Health (www.treenomix.ca). This first joint workshop will provide an overview of active research and results in conifer genomics in a variety of areas such as tree-insect interaction, adaptation to climate, growth and wood formation.  The experimental approaches that will be discussed include gene discovery, transcript profiling, proteomics, bioinformatics, genetic mapping, metabolomics. The workshop will also address active research in the areas of social sciences, economics, and ethics related to the biological research of the two projects.

Participation at this workshop is open to all attendees at the 2008 IUFRO-CTIA Joint Conference. Please note that only members from Arborea-Treenomix can submit abstracts for oral presentation at this workshop. Posters will be presented within the poster viewing sessions of the Joint IUFRO-CTIA Conference.
